Summer skin: Tips and tricks for a glowing complexion

The summer season can take its toll on your skin; with the combination of sun exposure, extra alcohol over Christmas and New Year's, unhealthy food choices and lack of sleep your skin can end up looking dull.  Here are 4 tips for keeping your complexion vibrant over summer:
  • Keep hydrated - drink water. Summer is an active (and hot) time of year, that combined with extra alcohol consumption means that you can easily become dehydrated.  Dehydrated skin lacks shine and is dry and flaky - no one wants that! Drink at least three litres of water a day, more if you are physically active / sweating a lot.
  • Make healthy food choices. Christmas and New Year celebrations can mean poor food choices including lots of sugar (which has been shown to have a negative effect on skin aging).  Think about what you are eating; include lots of fruit and vegetables and try to limit sugar.  This is an ideal time to get the blender out and experiment with smoothies; not only are they cooling on hot days but they are an easy way of incorporating fruit and veg into your diet.
  • Easier said than done but aim for 7 to 9 hours a night.  Skin repairs and renews itself during sleep so it’s essential for maintaining a glowing complexion.  If you’re struggling with sleep checkout out our next blog on Five Steps to Better Beauty Sleep.
  • Hydrate from the outside. After a long, hot summer’s day, your skin will appreciate being moisturised with one of Caithy Organics premium oils. Choose from Argan, Marula or Rosehip.  Each of these will leave your skin feeling smooth and soft and will help combat signs of aging and skin damage.

With these 4 tips, you’ll be well on your way to a glowing, healthy skin throughout summer
